Does the Obedience Level Limit Affect All Pokemon in Pokemon Emerald?

Why This Feels Uncertain#

“Pokemon up to Level 30, even those you get in trades, will obey without question.”

This wording suggests the rule applies broadly to all Pokemon, while only briefly mentioning traded ones.

Because of this, it can feel like:

• Any Pokemon above the listed level might stop obeying
• The limit applies to your entire team
• Progress is required to unlock obedience for all Pokemon

The game does not clearly separate how the rule actually works, which leads to confusion.

What Actually Happens#

In Pokemon Emerald:

• Obedience limits apply only to traded Pokemon
• Pokemon you catch yourself are not affected
• Pokemon received from in-game events are not affected
• Gym badges raise the obedience cap for traded Pokemon only

This means high-level traded Pokemon may disobey without enough badges, but your own Pokemon will continue to follow commands.
